The Journey That Led Me West to a Life of Freedom
In 2017, I decided to make a change. After years in a corporate job, I wanted more freedom and flexibility, and remote work was just becoming viable. With a red backpack, my laptop, and a one-way ticket to California, I left my small hometown in Maryland and set out for Los Angeles. I started in Silver Lake, where the mix of creative energy and independence felt right. Working from coffee shops, I freelanced, adjusting to life on my own terms.
From LA, I kept moving—Colorado, Washington, and Northern California. Each stop taught me something new, giving me the freedom to balance work with adventure. It wasn’t about escaping work; it was about creating a life I loved, combining career with exploration.
Becoming a digital nomad has been life-changing. It’s not always easy, but if you’re thinking about trying it, I’d say go for it. It’s worth every step.
